Melvin "Port" J. Langen, 90
Funeral Mass for Melvin "Port" J. Langen, 90, of
Farmersville is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Farmersville. The Rev. Jerry Bunse will officiate,
and burial will be in St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery, Morrisonville.
Visitation will be at the church today, Monday, Jan. 10, from 4 until 7
p.m. The Hough Funeral Home in Farmersville is in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Langen died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011,
at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born on Dec. 10, 1920, in
Morrisonville to John T. and Kathryn E. (Lyons) Langen.
He
married Velma Hornbeck in St. Maurice's Catholic Church, Morrisonville,
on Sept. 7, 1949; she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Kathy
(husband Bob) Carnduff of Chatham; three sons, Ron (wife Sharon) Langen
of Farmersville, Don Langen of Peoria, Dave (wife Sharon) Langen of
Taylorville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two
brothers, Gerald Langen of Raymond and Ed (wife Lucy) Langen of
Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ryan Langen; and two brothers, Howard and John J. Langen.
A
farmer from the Farmersville area, he was a member of St. Mary's
Catholic Church, the Farmersville Knights of Columbus, and the
Leslie-Redick American Senior post 721 in Morrisonville an avid bowler,
he was a third baseman in minor league baseball in the early 1940s
before he was drafted into the Air Force.
