Alfred F. Elam Sr. 86 of Irving passed away January 25, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon IL with his family by his side.
He was born May 17, 1932 in rural Greenville IL to Harold and Edith (Best) Elam.
Alfred was married to the love of his life Fairy “Jewell” White Elam for 68 years.
He proudly served in the US Army.
Alfred was always know as a “hard worker’ his career started at Uniroyal tires in Joliet, IL while still employed by Uniroyal he became the Co-founder of Elam’s Towing in Hillsboro., as if he wasn’t busy enough he and his wife opened a general store later turned into J&A Country Kitchen in Braidwood, they then relocated back “Home” where he started working for Danny White Trucking in Coffeen. Alfred finally decided to permanently retire after working as the green’s keeper at Hillsboro Country Club.
He is survived by his wife Fairy “Jewell”, three children Merle (Ann) Elam of Coal City Il, Bonnie Sue (Floyd) Scheifer of Witt and Rhonda Scheifer of Witt, 8 grandchildren Joanna (Shawn) Dames, Brian (Taushia) Elam, Stephanie (Ken) Smith, Rebecca (Brad)Wood, Jewell Ann (Keith Raymond) Scheifer, Kimberly (Colten Smith) Scheifer, Courtney (Andy) Bounds and Tristen (Caitlyn
Street) Scheifer and 16 great grandchildren, one Brother Richard “Dick’ Elam of Taylor Springs and one sister Wanda Taylor of Irving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son Alfred F. Elam Jr., one great-great granddaughter Ellie Lynnell Marie Scheifer and four sisters Martha Young, Marilyn Munoz, Lola Short and Donna Elmore.
Memorials can be directed to the donor’s choice.
Funeral services will be Monday Jan 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Brother Danny White officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday Jan 27, 2019 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in rural Greenville.
Military rites will be conducted grave side by the Mulberry American Legion Post 1180.
