Earl Sorrells Obituary

 

Earl C. Sorrells, age 91 of Raymond, passed away Jan. 2, 2020 at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born Feb. 4, 1928 in Hillsboro the son of Merrill and Nora Stillahn Sorrells

He was a graduate of Raymond High School. 

He married Doris M. Pocock at the First Methodist church in Nokomis on June 20, 1948

Earl was a farmer and in 1972 when he became owner of Sorrells Elevator and Farm Supply. 

Most people know him from listening to him on WSMI as he read from his mother’s diaries and gave the market report. He and his wife Doris enjoyed traveling all over the United States and many other Countries, they hosted many foreign exchange students from all over the world and was a life long St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He was an avid supporter of the FFA. 

He was member of the Morrisonville Masonic Lodge, ANSAR Shriners, M&M Shrine, 4-H leader and a member of the 4-H Hall of Fame, Raymond-Harvel Kiwanis.

He served on a number of boards that included; the Livestock Feeders, Soybean Checkoff Board, Midwest Truckers, National Cattleman’s Assn., Hillsboro Area Hospital Board, IL Corn Growers Assn. 

He is survived by four children Mark (Nancy) Sorrells of New York, Jean (David) Fuchs of Raymond, Brenda (Blake) Cloyd of Springfield and Kent (Sandy) Sorrells of Raymond, 10 grandchildren Shawn (Meghan) Sorrells of Pennsylvania, Trevor (Gregory) Sorrells of New York, Gwen (Dustin) Ziegler of Washington, Rachael (Jon) Root of Colorado, Garrett (Sydney) Fuchs of Raymond, Ben (Katie) Cloyd of Colorado, Bart (Melanie) Cloyd of Michigan, Brooke (Zach) Bell of Springfield, Tara (Zach) Gahr of Normal and Megan (Brad) Humbert of Glen Carbon, 14 great grandchildren Morgan and Mia Root, Layla and Emma Ziegler, Vale and Reid Fuchs, Beckett and Lincoln Cloyd, Cooper and Tucker Bell, Charlotte Cloyd and Riley and Reese Gahr,  one sister Dorothy Betzold of Nokomis.  

Besides his parents he was preceded him in death, by wife Doris in 2019, one grandchild Tonya Fuchs. 

 

Memorials can be directed to Raymond Park District or Donor’s choice.

Funeral services will be Monday January 6, 2020 at, A Community of Faith Church in Raymond at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Mulch and Rev. Jennifer Fielden officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 3pm until 6pm at the church.

Burial in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond.
