James Kenneth Stockstill 89 of Butler passed away March 4, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Litchfield. He was born at home in Zanesville IL Township on May 8, 1928 to Robert and Maude (Friend) Stockstill.
Kenny had 4 brothers Sid, Harry, Bob and Harold. As a young child his family lived in Old Zanesville, moving to rural Litchfield as a teen. He attended schools in Old Zanesville, Waggoner then Litchfield.
On October 30, 1948 he married Lavina Pearl Karrick. To this union, three children were born, James Keith (Janie) Stockstill, Wanda Faye (Verlin) McNeese and Scott Duayne (Deborah Jean) Stockstill.
He moved to Peoria In February 1947 to work at Caterpillar; he continued to work until his retirement in 1985, after retirement Kenny and Pearl enjoyed square dancing and also spent 21 years on the road, visiting all 50 states. Kenny loved playing golf and played every chance he could. He also loved to ride horses; his last ride was at the age of 82.
While raising his family in Peoria, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and Boy Scout Commissioner. He was a volunteer fireman in the Peoria area, after his passing Members of the Litchfield Fire Department honored him with a final salute and last call.
Of all his accomplishments, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He taught his children the immense love and pride a man has of his family and passed that legacy on to his children.
His family grew from his 3 children to six after they married. Left to cherish his memory are his children, 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, 4 brothers a grandchild and a great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Friday March 9th at 12:00 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Richard Small officiating, visitation will be from10:00 AM until service time. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park in Litchfield. Memorials can be directed to the Butler Community center.
