June 11, 1921 ~ September 25, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old

John E. Murphy 96 of Litchfield formerly of Farmersville passed away Monday Sept 25, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

He was born June 11, 1921 in Harvel IL to John and Marie (Langen) Murphy.

He was a 1938 graduate of Raymond high school and a 1940 graduate of Worshams College of Mortuary science in Chicago.

He married Shirley E. Koehler on Dec. 30, 1942 in Peoria and she preceded him on July 1, 2017.

He was a WWII Navy veteran.

He owned and operated the Murphy Funeral Home in Farmersville and Staunton for many years and also provided ambulance service to the community for over 35 years. He was the former mayor of Farmersville. Lyons club of Ramsey, American Legion and K of C both Vandalia and United States Trotting Association and he loved racing trotters and pacer horses.

He is survived ,2 daughters, Pat (Roger) Frey of Canton, Jo Sack of Dunlap, 6 sons John P. (Linda) Murphy of Normal, Dennis J. (Chris) Murphy of State College, Penn Tim P.  (Susan) Murphy of Waterloo, IL Dan B. (Linda) Murphy of Overland Park Kansas, Kevin (Tammy) Murphy of Atwater, and Terry B. (Companion Cheryl Holiday) Murphy of Staunton.  He is also survived by 25 Grand 31 great and a great great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews one brother James Murphy of Canada and one sister Dorothy McGuire of Boston Ma.

He was preceded by his parents, brothers Harold, Carl, Gerald and Roy Murphy, a grandson Ben Murphy and one son in law John “Kip” Sack.

Memorials to the St. Martin’s Cemetery or the Farmersville revitalization committee-opera house restoration.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Farmersville at 10 AM on Friday Sept. 29, 2017

Visitation will be held on Thursday Sept. 28 2017 from 4 to 7 PM also at the church.

Burial will be in St. Martin in Farmersville.

The family is being assisted by Hough Memorial Home in Farmersville.
