Richard “Dick” B. Gifford 73 of Hillsboro passed away July 12, 2019 at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1946 in Hillsboro to William and Roslind (Everett) Gifford.
He attended Burbank grade school and graduated from Hillsboro High School.
He was a laborer and he worked for 40 years at Don Cranfills Shooting Preserve and trained bird dogs, He was head of maintenance at Walmart, worked at Fuller Brothers and Storms Lumber in Nokomis
He was a member of the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church and the Kershaw-Hammer VFW #1306, where he was a past officer and was on the burial detail.
He served in the US Army during Vietnam from 1966-1968 with the 60th combat engineer’s brigade as a tunnel rat and Communication center specialist under the direct order of General Westmoreland.
He married Peggy Spears and she survives.
He is survived by 5 children Gabriella Gifford, Alora Chandler, Angelica Trader, Jaimann Ellis and Justin Deal, 10 grandchildren Seryn, Logan, Jadyn, Zian, Aliyah, Knisley, Emersyn, Brecken, Jovee and Ezra. Surviving are two brothers William “Bill” Gifford and Fred Gifford and one sister Julie Gifford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Roland, Jesse and Jerry Gifford.
Funeral service will be Friday July 26, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Hillsboro Free Methodist church with Rev. Randy Sands Officiating; visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the Church.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro with full military rites conducted by VFW #1306 and Irving American Legion Post 425.
