Valerie Kaye Hortenstine-Sheldon, age 39, of Hillsboro passed away on May 16, 2019 as a result of a traffic accident near Raymond. She was born on June 25, 1979 in Vandalia, Illinois the daughter of Jacob and Teresa Sergent Hortenstine.
She married Timothy Sheldon on July 25, 1998, which later ended in divorce.
Val was a graduate of Ramsey High School and had attended Lake Land College, She had completed several Law Enforcement training classes at area agencies. Chief Sheldon had worked as a patrol officer for the Coffeen Police Dept., Nokomis Police Dept., and Witt Police Dept. For the last 12 years she worked for the Raymond Police Dept. where for the last nine and a half years served a Chief of Police. She was a Montgomery Co EMA Volunteer and a member of the Montgomery County Search and Rescue Team.
She is survived by her father, Jacob (Crystal) Hortenstine of Ramsey; mother, Teresa (Allen Smith) Hortenstine of Ramsey, two sons Jacob Sheldon and Isaac Sheldon both of Hillsboro sisters Katelyn (Bo) Ridgeway of Litchfield, Josephine (Andrew) Stewart of Vandalia Misty (Michael) Warner of Vandalia, Cassandra Hortenstine, of Ramsey, Elizabeth Hortenstine of Ramsey, also surviving are; 3 Nephews and 4 Nieces. Her companion Jason McCallum of Raymond also survives her
Memorials maybe left to the Valerie Hortenstine-Sheldon Memorial Fund that has been setup for her children’s education.
Services will be held on Tuesday, at 11am, at the St. Raymond K of C Hall in Raymond. Friends may call from 3-7 on Monday May 20, 2019 at also at the KofC Hall
Burial will be held in the Hortenstine Family Cemetery in Ramsey.
