Bruce L. Webb, 86, of Farmersville, passed away on Tues., Jan. 25, 2022, at 8:16 p.m. Sunrise Manor in Virden.
He was born on June 22,1935 in Pitman Twp, IL, the 3rd son, of Walter Glenn and Juanita V. (Buchanan) Webb.
Bruce attended the Burnett “One Room School House” in Pitman Township before graduating from Farmersville High School. Where he was active in basketball and band. He excelled at Agriculture becoming the first student in the district to be named American Farmer by the National FFA. This achievement is commemorated at the State of Illinois FFA headquarters in Springfield.
He married Phyllis A. Dunkel on Apr. 3, 1955, in the Farmersville United Methodist Church; she preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1998.
He was a farmer and was a coal miner for Freeman United at Crown 1 and then later at Monterey Coal Co. In the mid 1950’s he owned and operated a Poultry Broiler in Waggoner, where they raised and processed chickens. In 1978, he and his wife started Webb Insurance in Farmersville and later opened an office in Raymond. Bruce was a community minded person and enjoyed socializing. He served as a board member of the Macoupin and Montgomery Crime-stoppers and was a member of the Raymond-Harvel Kiwanis.
He is survived by a son, Steven Webb and companion Tammy Pate, daughters, Barbara Farrar and husband Ray Durston and Marla Hitchings and husband Jim all of Waggoner, a brother, Dr. Lynn (Dr. Marilyn) Webb of Nashville, TN; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers; Roger, Donald and Robert.
Funeral services will be held Mon., January 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., Visitation will be held from 9-11am at Hough Funeral Home in Raymond. Dr Lynn Webb, will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond. The family suggests memorials to PAWS or Lincolnwood FFA.
