Morrisonville, IL Carroll G. Merritt, 80, of Morrisonville, IL passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at his home.
Carroll was born, May 27, 1938, in Greenville, the son of Rupert and Mable Merritt of Smithboro, IL. He married Linda JoAnn Siebert on September 20, 1961.
Carroll is survived by his children, Mike Merritt (Kathy) of Warner Robins AFB, GA and Michelle Kunkler of Taylorville, IL; six grandchildren, Steven M. Kunkler (Kourtney) of Chatham, IL, Jacob M. Merritt of North Pole, AK, Zachary B. Kunkler (Jaclyn) of Columbus AFB, MS, Justin M. Merritt of San Antonio, TX, Cody A. Kunkler (Ellie) of Sharpsburg, IL, and Kevin M. Merritt of Warner Robins AFB, GA; great-granddaughter, Emrie Lyn Kunkler; sisters Grace Haynes and Genevieve Mayberry (Robert); brother John Merritt (Lynne); sister-in-law, Sally Broaddus (Mick); brothers-in- law, Maurice Siebert (Ann) and Norman Siebert (Jeana); and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda; parents, Rupert and Mable; mother-in-law, Opal Eller Siebert, father-in-law, Carl Siebert; sister, Norma Jean Moore; brothers, Robert Merritt and Clifford Merritt; sister-in-law, Lucille Snow; and brothers-in-law, Carl Dean Siebert, Kenneth Siebert, and Daniel Siebert.
Carroll served in the US Army being stationed in Korea and Ft Leonard Wood, MO. After being discharged and starting his family, he and Linda made Morrisonville the town to raise their family and, over the years, worked at Circle Steele and ACE Hardware in Taylorville, Stewart’s IGA in Morrisonville, Wernsing’s in Harvel, was a federal employee in Springfield, and retired from the US Postal Service in 2004. After retiring, Carroll enjoyed traveling to see Mike and his family in Alaska, Okinawa, and Washington DC and also spending time in Georgia with his brother, John. Carroll was seen frequently in Raymond with his coffee crew in the mornings and at Arby’s in the afternoons. If you were to see him, he would always have pictures of his son and daughter-in-law, grandsons, and his great-granddaughter in his shirt pocket and be quick to show them off, showing his pride in each and every one of them.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2018, from 11am to 2:00 pm at the Hough Funeral Home in Raymond, IL, with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Morrisonville Cemetery.
