Charles C. Grimes 104 most recently of Litchfield went to be with his Lord Jesus Thursday Feb. 4, 2021 at Staunton Heritage Manor in Staunton, he had been a resident there for less than a month, having moved from Timber Creek Village in Litchfield, where he had lived for nearly a year after moving from Florida.
He was born in Nokomis IL on June 6, 1916 to Clinton and Eva (Nelson) Grimes.
He was a 1934 graduate of Nokomis High School and had worked on several WPA projects attending Dilly Aircraft Business School in Kansas.
He worked for Warner Aircraft in Detroit MI., leaving to serve in the Merchant Marines during World War II (1943-1945). After the war he returned to Warner Aircraft for several years, later working for Burroughs Corporation in Detroit as a machinist building banking machines.
He married Gunvor Rhodin in Detroit on Oct 15, 1955. She preceded him in death on Jan 23, 2012; and upon retirement they moved to New Port Richey Fl., where they enjoyed volunteering at their church, square dancing and traveling.
He is survived by nephews Russell (Gerry) Rhodes of Hillsboro, Jerry Martin of Nokomis, Karla (John) Stachowiak of Cuba IL, Lorna (Bill) Jones of Hillsboro and Wade (Darlene) Martin of Keatchie LA, as well as many Great-nieces and great-Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, his siblings, Troy (in infancy), Lee Grimes, Nellie Rhoades, Doris Martin and a niece Loeva Hopper.
Memorials can be directed to Shriners Hospital or Donors Choice
Funeral services will be Wednesday Feb. 10, 2021at 2:00 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Mark Noyes officiating.
Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.
