Claribel Ruth Wiley, age 94, of Litchfield passed away December 9, 2020 at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. She was born March 25, 1926 in Honey Point Twp., in Macoupin County IL, the daughter of Charles Edgar and Clara Mary Schwab Bishop.
At the age of 17, Claribel was flown down to SIU in Carbondale to attend training to teach elementary school, after completion, she was granted a "Limited State War Emergency Certificate''. She taught students, including her brother Jim and sister Reba, at Crabtree Country School, near Litchfield, from 1945-1946.
She was the owner/operator of Claribel's Beauty Shop worked as a hairdresser in both the Litchfield and Hillsboro area. She married Melvin Walz, which ended in divorce, she married, Darrell "Smoky" Quarton who preceded her in death and married Jim Wiley who also preceded her.
Her son, Tom wife Mary Ann Walz of Raymond, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grand children survive her. Besides her parents and husbands she was preceded by son Mike Walz and granddaughter Lorie McDonald, 7 brothers and sisters; Bud Bishop, Wayne Bishop, Bob Bishop, James Bishop, Eileen Ferrari, Mary Ellen Maahs, and Reba Martin. Memorials in Claribel's memory can be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
Graveside services will be held on Monday December 14 at 11:00am at Girard City Cemetery in Girard.
