Douglas "Doug" Galer Obituary

Douglas “Doug” L. Galer, age 90, passed away on November 24, 2024, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Doug was born on November 6, 1934, to his parents Delford “Del” E. and Pauline E. (Burgess) Galer in Lancaster, Wisconsin.

He attended Hillsboro High School, graduating with the class of 1954. After high school he entered the U.S. Army. He eventually began work for Hillsboro Glass for many years and then opened his own business called “Galer’s Market” where he sold flowers and concrete lawn ornaments. He was a member of the Moose Club and the Sertoma Club.

Doug loved the sports of fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting, as well as the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He enjoyed working outside, skiing, and spending time teaching his children how to play the game of baseball. Doug was also an avid card player.

He married Janice Newberry in 1964 and she survives him.

Doug is also survived by his children, Guy Galer, Todd Galer, Troy Galer, Lesley Warmouth, and Dru Galer, as well as 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Phillip “Phill” Galer and Gilbert Galer.

Memorials in Doug’s honor may be directed to the Hillsboro Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the Hillsboro Methodist Church, located at 537 Rountree Street in Hillsboro. The family invites friends of Mr. Galer to attend and share their favorite stories.
