Earl Ellis, 88, of Hillsboro, passed away July 10, 2023, at Montgomery County Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on October 22, 1934, in Taylorville, Illinois to his parents Erman and Frances (Lewis) Ellis.
Earl graduated from Hillsboro High School and soon after went into the U.S. Army for a couple of years. Once Earl left the military, he worked as a farmer and a mechanic. He was also an Irving Road Commissioner for over 15 years. Earl was a part of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau as well as attended the Irving United Methodist Church.
He married his love Joanne Finke and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2018.
Surviving are five children, Barbara (Randy) White of Fillmore, Edwin (Melissa) Ellis of Durham, MO., Robert Ellis of Irving, Marie Wilson of Edinburg, and Keith (James) Ellis of Litchfield. Earl is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister Ruby Ellis of Litchfield.
Besides his wife Joanne and his parents, one daughter precedes him in death, Janice Sue Ellis, along with his siblings Wayne Ellis, Virginia Whitworth, Dale Ellis, Edith Kunz, and Velma Dewitt.
Memorials in Earl’s memory may be made out to the Montgomery County Cancer Association (MCCA).
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro are assisting the family with arrangements.
