Eleanor Mae (Cozzello) Unger

Eleanor Mae Unger, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025. She was born May 11, 1944, in Chicago, a daughter of Frank M. and Georgia M. Cozzello. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1962 and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in St. Louis. Eleanor married Paul L. Unger in 1964; they later divorced. In her career, she was employed as an executive secretary for the State of Illinois.

Her son, Douglas (Donell) Unger

Her daughter, Jennifer Hathaway, of Quincy

Her sister, Mary Cozzello, of Springfield

3 grandchildren, Alexis (Nathan) Dahlhauser, Paul Hathaway & Ben Hathaway

2 great-grandchildren, Alexander & Aria Dahlhauser

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ben Cozzello.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Inurnment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
