Obituary

Flossie Lorraine Bandy was called home Monday, March 20th, 2023 at 11:55am.

She resided in Springfield, IL; she was formerly of Irving and Coffeen.

She passed after a difficult but short battle with cancer.  In the days prior and up to her death, she was surrounded and comforted by her family.

Flossie was born September 15th, 1934, to Helen and Joseph Baker.  She married Willis Bandy and together they had three children Rex, Roger Dale and Susan.  She later married Arthur Matthews whom she deeply loved up until and continued to after his passing in 2020.

Flossie was the rock of her family.  She was loyal, funny, and selfless.  She loved her family fiercely, as well as her animals, and Jimmy Swaggart.  Her faith was strong and she strived to help others come to believe.

She is survived by two brothers Donald Baker of Litchfield, IL and Charles (Beulah) Baker of Springfield IL, children Rex Bandy (former daughter in law Joyce) of Irving, IL, Susan Boyd (former son in law Walter) of Fairview Heights, IL.  Grandchildren April Hall of Owatonna MN, Tracy (Brad) Donald of O’Fallon IL, Justin (Linsay) Watkins of Sheboygan, WI.  Joseph (Amie) Bandy of Edwardsville, IL, Britney (Taylor) Easton of Springfield, IL,  14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Roger Dale, Art, two brothers Estil and Frankie and one sister Della.

Both will be buried on Saturday March 25, 2023 at 3:30 PM at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend with Clint Weir officiating.

Arthur Jesse Matthews of Irving went home to God on November 5th, 2020.   He passed peacefully in his sleep at St. Johns hospital Springfield Il., days after being diagnosed with cancer.

Art was born November 22nd, 1933 to Oral “Matty” and Hazel (Hankins) Matthews.  His siblings were Sherry Brossard, Sonna Reener, Delores Huckaby, Tracy Matthews, Rodger Matthews, and Kenneth Matthews.

He was a hard worker, proudly driving semis all over America and parts of Canada for numerous years.  He also owned his own lawn mowing business.  He loved driving around out in the country, he loved fishing, and he loved Flossie Bandy whom he married in March of 1998.  His loud, deep laugh is greatly missed.  He had several children including Dennis, Rex, and Susan.  Grandchildren April Hall, Tracy (Brad) Donald, Justin (Linsay) Watkins, Joseph (Amie) Bandy, and Britney (Taylor) Easton.  He was the best grandpa.

Both will be buried on Saturday March 25, 2023 at 3:30 PM at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend with Clint Weir officiating.
