Gary Avon Bandy Sr., age 84, of St. Peters, Missouri, formerly of Raymond, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Bandy will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. A visitation will start prior to the service at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Harvel Cemetery in Harvel, Illinois.
Mr. Bandy was born on April 6, 1940, in Litchfield, Illinois, to his parents Cleveland Avon Jr. and Lueva Louise (Fraley) Bandy. Gary graduated from Raymond High School. He served in the US Army. After serving in the Army, Gary went on to work for Francis Chevrolet from 1963 - 1967 and Feld Chevrolet from 1967 - 2001 as a parts manager. He also owned a bar called "The Office" in Winfield, MO, in the '90's. Mr. Bandy was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan and shared that same love for the St. Louis Blues, as well as the Kansas City Chiefs. One of Gary's favorite places to be was on the water fishing. Gary married Sondra "Sandy" Bergschnider, and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2002. He then married Margaret Bell, and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2014.
Mr. Bandy is survived by his step-children, Donna (Husband, Ches) Edwards of Hawkpoint, MO; Steven Petit of Old Monroe, MO; and Pamela (Husband, Michael) McDonald of St. Peters, MO; his grandchildren Joseph Bray of Missouri, Aaron (Wife, Grace) Bray of Moscow Mills, MO; Allie (Dan Truelove) McDonald of Old Monroe, MO; Kyle Bray of Missouri, and Abbie Grace of St. Peters, MO; as well as several great-grandchildren. Gary is also survived by nieces and nephews, Lea (Husband, Donnie) Pennington, Larry (Doris) Kurfiss, Lynn (Dawn Richardson) Kurfiss, Karen (Husband, Chuck) Pickerill, Sharon (Gary) Busch, Dennis Uhrig, Angela (Husband, Mark) Williams, and a brother-in-law Ron Bergschnider.
Gary was preceded in death by his son Gary Bandy Jr., his sister Carol “Joyce” Kurfiss, brother-in-law Leonard Kurfiss Sr., and a nephew Leonard Kurfiss, Jr.
Memorials in Gary’s memory may be directed to Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis in honor of his son Gary Jr.
