George L. Blankenship 74 of Hillsboro passed away June 2, 2021 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.
He was born June 26, 1946 in Hillsboro IL to George A. and Esther M. (Dressor) Blankenship.
He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, earned a BS in agriculture from SIU-C, and a Master of Education in agriculture from the University of Illinois.
He was a lifelong farmer and taught Ag class at Hillsboro High School for over 7 years and was wrestling coach, he was a member of the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church, He had been on the Hillsboro School Board for over 16 years, Montgomery County board member, past president of the Hillsboro Lions Club, past president of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and past president of the Montgomery County Water Company Board. He enjoyed antique tractors and fishing, he enjoyed traveling and loved his family and friends.
He married Geneva Smith on June 14, 1969 and she survives along with three children Leigh Ellen (Brian) Spooner of Clifton IL, Alan Blankenship and Amy Hernandez both of Hillsboro, six grandchildren Brian, Brock and Brenna Spooner, Dustin Gipson and Christian and Maria Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday June 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Sands officiating, Visitation will be Monday June 7, 2021 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Van Burensburg
