George "Perk" Halteman Obituary

George Perry “Perk” Halteman, age 75, of Mt. Olive, died at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. He was born on March 6, 1949, in Springfield, IL, to John Quince and Norma June (Slightom) Halteman. He married Arlene Gerdes in 1969, and later divorced and later he married Kim Sellander.

Perry joined the Army and served 2 years in Alaska. He was a Laborer and belonged to the Local 338 Laborers Union for 20 years and also the Local 520 Operators Union. Perk was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed Bow Hunting, Deer Hunting, Fishing and Duck Hunting and always had a story to tell.
He was a 30 year member of the Gillespie Bass Club. 
 
Besides his wife Kim, he is survived by his children, Mary Jo (Jeremy) of Farmersville, and Amy (Jake) Davidson of Palmetto, FL, siblings; Carol (Dave) Matheson of Springfield, Bob (Janice) Halteman of The Villages, FL, Rita (Les) Kingery of Ward, AR, Nate (Vicki) Halteman of Carlinville, and Mary Ann (Ron) Drennan of Springfield and also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John Q Halteman.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Perry's service, the family requests donations to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
