Irene Hurd Hawley, 81, long time resident of Butler, IL departed this earth on Wednesday, July 19, St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, Illinois. She was born on April 1, 1942, in Moss Point, Mississippi to Alfred Hurd and Cecelia Lyons Hurd.
She graduated from Moss Point High School, attended Perkinston Jr. College and then received her degree in Home economics from Southern Mississippi.
She worked for the Home Extension 4-H office in Hillsboro; she was a dietitian at Hawthorne Manor in Hillsboro, then owned and operated Kathryn’s Floral in Hillsboro and worked in Litchfield at Walmart and had been a substitute teacher in Hillsboro.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters (Adelaide Doherty, Linda Smith, Anne Bradley and Faye McCary).
She married Ronald Hawley Sr. on Feb. 20, 1965 in Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay Alabama.
She is survived by her husband Ronald Hawley Sr., two sons Ronald (Beverly) Hawley Jr. of South Elgin, IL, Robert (Debbie) Hawley of Brighton, IL.,
Sister, Jane (Warren) Sims of Forts Lake, Mississippi, brother Al (Belinda) Hurd of Cropwell, Alabama and brother Louis (Betty) Hurd of Moss Point Mississippi, three granddaughters, (Tiffany, Beth & Brandi) three great grandchildren (Cody, Olivia, Cameron) a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday July 30, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Hough & Sons Funeral Home, 1119 School Street, Hillsboro, IL with a visitation from 10:00 AM until service time.
Burial will be in Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler.
