James Leon Watson, aged 83, of Hillsboro, passed away February 25, 2024, at his home.
James was born on December 6, 1940, in rural Hillsboro to his parents Roy and Ora Mae Watson.
He worked as a Diesel Mechanic for over 40 years with Dale Williams Trucking in Fillmore, Illinois.
James married Lola Jean Root on June 8, 1963, and she preceded him in death in 2017.
James enjoyed watching dirt track racing, Western movies, and loved attending the BlueGrass Festival at Hillsboro Campground. He was a part of the CB Club known as “Union Man”. He also attended the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro.
Surviving are his daughters Paula Boerckel and Tammy Elwood, both of Hillsboro, as well as his grandchildren James Riley and Terri Martin. James is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife Lola, James was preceded in death by one son Rickey Leon Watson, and a grandson Cody Faingnaert, as well as 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
A Memorial Service for James will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 6:00 PM, at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with a visitation starting at 5:00 PM.
