John McCaffrey Obituary


John Edward McCaffrey, 79, of Litchfield died at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date for immediate family. Hough Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McCaffrey was born on Feb. 22, 1941, to Edward and Margaret (Oberriter) McCaffrey in Springfield. He married Karen Olson on May 23, 1970, at the Aledo Fairgrounds in Aledo, IL, where the couple met. His wife survives him in Litchfield.
Mr. McCaffrey graduated from Griffin High School in Springfield in 1958 and attended the University of Maryland. He was of the Catholic faith. He was an Army veteren having served two tours of duty in Korea where he was the Fire Battalion Marshal and a sharpshooter. He was a member of the Springfield Eagles Club of and Decatur Moose Lodge. He was also a member of VFW North Ender Post in Springfield and on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Senior Citizens. Mr. McCaffrey was a member of Ironworkers Local 46 and worked for the State at the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cari (husband Brad) Warren of Decatur, Heather (husband Mike) Plunkett of Hillsboro, Dr. Sean (wife Rebecca) McCaffrey of Chatham, and Ryan (wife Kara) McCaffrey of Williamsville; four grandchildren, Pierce and Parker Warren of Decatur, August Plunkett of Hillsboro and Conor McCaffrey of Chatham; and a brother, Dr. James (wife Ellen) McCaffrey of Houston, Texas.
