Jon Hagaman Obituary

Jon C. Hagaman, age 79, of Butler, passed away December 3, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with loved ones by his side.

He was born on September 15, 1945, in Canton, Illinois to his parents Howard and Jeanne (Ferguson) Hagaman.

Those who knew Jon knew what a wonderful man he was. He was such a great dad, father in law, grandpa and friend. He was exceptionally loving and caring, doing anything and everything for his family. He enjoyed spending his retirement years living with his daughter Amber, son-in-law Craig, and 3 grandchildren Carlee, McKenna, and Henry. Jon always said it was the best years of his life and the happiest he’s ever been living with them. He had such a big heart and loved his furry friends just as dearly. He loved caring and hanging out with his boxer dogs. Jon loved to sit on his back porch watching them play, reading books and enjoying the nature around him. He always knew how to have a good time and had so many stories to tell. Jon was a traveling man and had been to all the states except for Alaska. He also traveled the world while serving in Vietnam in the Navy, aboard the USS Coral Sea. After being in the Navy, he pursued many careers throughout his life and was an extremely hard working man. Jon worked on a barge for a short time and an above ground mine in Lewistown IL. He also owned two bars in Havana, IL. When the above ground mine closed, Jon went to work at Freeman Coal Mine in Farmersville, IL and moved there with his daughter, retiring thereafter. He had a tile company as well. Jon’s pride and joy in the work world was his “Big Red” truck. He finished out his many careers owning his own trucking company, Rapid Transit Truck Services Inc. Jon had a love for speed, cars and watching NHRA racing. In his younger years he raced alcohol flat boats, his being “the flat rat,” and was on the pit crew for NHRA drag racer, Jerry Marconi, out of Wauconda, IL (Near Chicago). Jon made friends in every corner, everywhere he went, in so many states. He was loved so deeply by his family and will be missed greatly.

A celebration of life service for Jon will be held at a later date.
