Joseph Martin Obituary

Joseph Maurice "Joe" Martin, age 84, of Raymond, passed away peacefully at 11:39am on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at his home in Raymond surrounded by his family.
Joe was born April 16, 1938 in Raymond, the son of Silas Hobert "Bert "and Mary Clara Hough Martin. He married Bonnie Braye on June 7, 1958 and later divorced. On April 22, 1977 he married Judith Yvonne Bryant Boehler in Peoria and she survives.
Joe farmed for a number of years and was a businessman in Raymond where began his career working for Bud Hannon at Hannon Equipment in 1956 and then became the Sales Manager for Darald Peters, Raymond Ford in Raymond until 1979. In August of 1979 he and Glenn Myers purchased Raymond Ford and served the community until they sold to Victory Lane Ford where Joe worked until he retired in 2017.
He was community minded and served where he was needed be it plowing the streets after a snow, helping clean up after a storm, Putting up or taking down the town Christmas Decorations or to help repair a water main break Joe gave back to community. He played an active role in the construction of the Shoal Creek Golf Course in Raymond among other projects throughout years.

He was currently serving as a Trustee of the Raymond Fire Protection District. In the past Joe served on the Raymond Village Board as a Trustee 50 years, He served as Mayor of Raymond for 4 years and village clerk for 4 years
He served on the Public Building Commission that overseen the building of the Montgomery County Jail and Courthouse Complex. Served on the Raymond 4th of July Association.
He served for many years as Treasure of the 3-M Firemen's Association
He was an active member of the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance Squad, Raymond-Harvel Fire Department, Raymond- Harvel Kiwanis, St. Raymond K of C Council 4696, Morrisonville Masonic Lodge #681, ANSAR Shrine, and Montgomery County Ducks Unlimited.

Besides being survived by his wife, Vonnie , he is survived by children; Monica Jo Weakly of Springfield, Lori Jean Martin of Farmersville, Debra Lou Bradburn of Auburn, Jodell Lynne husband John Watson of Farmersville, Gerry wife, Sue Boehler of Camp Point, IL, Cara Husband, Frank Hill of Jacksonville, IL, Jody wife, Jayne Boehler of Kansas City, MO, Judy Husband Dave Rikas of Auburn, Sam wife, Lori Boehler of Ottawa, IL, Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, a daughter Rena "Tinker" Boehler, a brother Robert Silas Martin and a grandson Shawn Kent preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on January 11 at Hough Funeral Home in Raymond. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on January 12 at St. Raymond Catholic Church, in Raymond with Fr. Florent, officiating.
Interment will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Raymond
