Kevin Marten, 68, of Springfield, formerly of Farmersville, passed away on June 01, 2022 at 2:00 am at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Kevin was born on February 16, 1954 in Springfield the son of Verne and Helen Overby Marten.
Kevin, although blind, was an amazing musician and most known for playing the piano and organ, but also played many brass instruments. He played for many weddings, funerals and always enjoyed entertaining others at many social events. Before he moved to Springfield he was the church organist and also entertained the crowds yearly at the Farmersville Irish Days.
After his move to the Mary Bryant Home in Springfield, he began to direct the Mary Bryant Home Singers. He would practice with them once a week and singers would travel to many nursing homes, church groups and different clubs to performed for them. Music was Kevin's life, weather it was listening to music, adding to his record collection or entertaining it was his joy.
Kevin traveled to many Lions and Rotary Clubs throughout the state and enjoyed meeting others. He always joked around with everyone and had such an contagious laugh. Kevin was an avid listener of WSMI and was able to keep up with the news in Farmersville. He attended church regularly and would even lead holiday concerts and bible studies at the Mary Bryant Home. He enjoyed keeping in touch with all of his friends on his phone and he loved peppermint ice cream and fried chicken.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kevin is survived by his sister Melissa (Kevin) Furness of Farmersville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on June 8, 2022 the Mary Bryant Home 2960 Stanton St. Springfield, IL 62703.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am also at the Mary Bryant Home www.marybryanthome.org .
Burial will be in Rovey Cemetery in Farmersville.
Memorials may be left in Kevins honor to the Mary Bryant Home Musical Department.
