Lavena Mae Compton, 87, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family and friends, on September 21, 2025. She was born, April 23, 1938, in Livingston, Illinois, to her devoted parents, John and Violet Huddleston.
Lavena’s life was a beautiful reflection of her faith and her love for others. She cherished every moment spent with her family, friends, and her sweet dog, Wendy. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to God touched the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her two children: daughter, Sue Niehaus, and husband Ronald Niehaus and son, Charles Compton Jr., and his wife Sammy Compton. She was a proud grandmother to John Niehaus and Scottie Niehaus; a loving great-grandmother to Noah Niehaus and Charles Niehaus, and best friend and aunt to Gail Schuster.
Lavena will be remembered for her faith, her joy, and the way she lived every day with gratitude and love. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, family, and laughter that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she held dear.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones in the presence of the Lord.
Visitation: 10:00 – 11:30 am., Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Reno Southern Baptist Church, 661 16th Ave., Greenville, IL 62246.
Funeral: 11:30 am., following the visitation.
Burial: Elm Point Cemetery, following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be given during the visitation and/or funeral or mailed to the Elm Point Cemetery, c/o 1591 IL 127, Greenville, IL 62246.
The family has entrusted Hough-Dean Funeral Home with arrangements.
