Luther Fred “Buck” Moler, 86, of Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in Cress Hill Cemetery with Pastor Randy Sands officiating. Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Buck was born December 12, 1936, in Decatur, Illinois to Martin Luther and Nellie Florence Moler. He married Donna Lou Hallers of Hillsboro on July 5, 1957, and she survives. They just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
He worked for over 35 years at Eagle Pitcher/Sherwin Williams/Eagle Zinc in Hillsboro and was a plant supervisor during the last few years until its closure in 2003. He enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, hunting, yard-saleing, and was a member of the Hillsboro Moose Club #1377 in which he was a member of The Fellowship Degree of Honor, was a Trustee, Treasurer and Junior Governor. Buck was also a past member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #51 A.F. & A.M.
Besides his wife, he leaves four children: Jerry (Tami) Moler, Michael (fiancé Shelly), and Nancy Reeves all of Hillsboro and James (Linda) Moler of Sorento. He also leaves 9 grandchildren; Melinda (Luke) Armbuster, Dixie Smiddy, Melissa (Mark) Brown, Erica (Shanna) Clayton, Jackie (Caleb) Brown, Jamie Moler, Jonathan (Companion Christina) Richmond, Kaylin (Companion David) Richmond, and Kelli Reeves; 11 great-grandchildren plus one on the way, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Bev Byington, Florence Wilfong, and Ron Moler; son-in-law, Dwight Reeves and daughter-in-law, Laura Kay (Richmond) Moler.
