Marion Constance “Connie” Murphy, 93, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was born in Hillsboro on January 13, 1932, a daughter of Edward Aloysius and Gladys Joybelle (Edwards) Mizera. A lifelong Hillsboro resident, she graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1949. Additionally, she attended Fontbonne University in St. Louis for a year before her marriage to Patrick Dane Murphy on August 24, 1950, in Hillsboro, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mrs. Murphy was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and the Alter and Rosary Society. She was a fabulous cook and seamstress, who enjoyed making clothing, enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge, and passionately loved animals.
Her career included homemaking, running a preschool out of her home in the early 1960’s, cooking at Patton Nursing Home, and she then retired from Hillsboro Glass after 25 years.

Five children, Melissa (Dick) Eskew of Hillsboro, Dane (Vicky) Murphy of Taylor Springs, Jennifer Murphy of Hillsboro, Mike (Cindy) Murphy of Taylor Springs, and George “Ted” Murphy of Hillsboro
Eleven grandchildren, Rhett (Devyn) Eskew, Claire (Thomas Reynolds) Eskew, Tobey (Jeff) Elvers, Taran (Josh) McKey, Megan (Scott Fitzgerald) Murphy, Tanner (Kayla) Murphy, Amanda Sneed, Adam (Kelly) Sneed, Gabe (Tracie) Murphy, Jessica (Patrick) Stephan, and Nicole (Paul Avila) Murphy-Avila

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Gladys Mizera; her husband, Patrick D. Murphy; a daughter, Sarah Murphy; and a sister, Martha A. Fudoli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Fr. Daniel Willenborg will preside. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Coffeen. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Montgomery County Animal Control.
