Myrtle Ann Barto, 94, passed away on February 21, 2023 at 11:21pm at her home in Raymond, with her family by her side. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of Ray and Sophia Watson Erwin. She married John M. Barto on November 10, 1949 in Raymond and he preceded her in death on December 18, 1995
She attended "A Community of Faith Church", and enjoyed greeting members on Sunday Mornings. Myrtle worked for Sangamo Electric Co. from 1950 until 1975 and then worked for Panhandle Community School as a custodian for 13 years when she retired in 1991. For many years up until 2002 Myrtle assisted Hough Funeral Homes with answering phones for the Ambulance, Fire and Police for Raymond, Farmersville and Morrisonville. She served her community for 22 yrs as a member of the Raymond Harvel Ambulance Service and was a member of the Harvels Women's Club.
Her favorite past-times include gardening, making jellies and jams to share with her family and friends, baking,and she often used the fruits and vegetables that she grew in her orchard to share with others and she was well known for her furniture refinishing.
Myrtle is survived by her children John R. Barto of Raymond, IL, Rita (Bob) Spoor of Normal, IL; five grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and 7 step great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews She is preceded in death by her parents, husband John daughter in law Marilyn Barto, sister; Mary White and Betty Wagahoff and a brother Bob Erwin. Visitation will be held on Saturday February 25, from 11-1 pm at A Community of Faith Church 101 Belle St in Raymond, Funeral service will follow at 1:00pm also at the church.
