Obituary

Rodger A. “Butch” Chesser 82 of Hillsboro died Monday January 18, 2021at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg IL. A private family burial service will be held later in Oak Grove Cemetery. Hough & Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Chesser was born June 8 1938 in Hillsboro IL, the son of Clyde and Beulah (Hart) Chesser. He married Margie K. Hammack in February 1959 in Hartsville TN.and she survives. A graduate of Hillsboro High School, He thereafter proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He then worked at Shell Oil Refinery in Woodriver for several years before transferring to CIPS Power station in Coffeen where he retired as a OSCHA Safety Supervisor. Mr. Chesser was a voracious reader and also enjoyed carpentry and handyman work on several rent houses in retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Pam (Jim) Roberts, Debby Cook (Companion Dany Baker), Kim (Craig) Pavolka and Faith (Brian)McCarty all of Hillsboro, eight grandchildren(Natalie, Amanda, Brett, Abbey, Rachael, Tessa, Jacob,Sam and Julia,); four greatgrandchildren(Jarrett, Jordyn, Bo and Pearl); two brothers Clyde Jr. “Tub” (Jane) Chesser and Rich (Cathy Fenton) Chesser both of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Phil and Terry Chesser. Memorials can be directed to the Hillsboro Public Library or Local VFW Post.
