Ronald Hawley Sr. 81 of Butler completed his earthly assignment and made his heavenly transition on Jan. 4, 2024.
Ron was born December 27, 1942 in Kalamazoo Michigan; the oldest son out of the kids to the union of Truman and Harriet (Colquist) Hawley.
At a young age Ronald was drafted to Vietnam War but, he decided to enlist in the US Navy (US Independent Aircraft Carrier) in 1963 -1967, while in the Navy he was an aviation metal smith, his job was to make the planes and put them in top shape and to ensure that the planes would be able to take off safely. While serving his country he met and married the love of his life Irene Hurd from that union two sons Ronald (Beverly) Jr., of South Elgin IL and Robert “Robbie” (Debbie) of Brighton IL survive.
While in the Navy he met a good friend Steve Borgic, Ron decided to move to where his best friend was from Witt IL. Ron worked for Eagle Picher in Hillsboro and also worked for a private auto body company. He later worked at Coffeen Coal Company, after it closed, he bought Ron’s Tavern in Butler IL which he owned and operated for over 10 years. He then went to work for FS in Butler, retiring 2002.
Ron’s passion was for his cars, ensuring they were clean and always had a shine. Ron also enjoyed keeping his yard looking good and he liked going to the Casino and working out.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene in 2023, one sister Susan (Hawley) McCauley and one brother David Hawley
Graveside services will be held on Sunday Jan. 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler with Rev. Mike Plummer officiating.
