Tjode Young Obituary

Tjode Lee Barnes Young, 83

Tjode Lee (Barnes) Young of Chatham, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away at home July
26, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born April 4, 1938 to the late Bill and
Leona (Nantkes) Barnes. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of
1956. Tjode attended modeling school before attending University of Illinois Champaign.
She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. On December 26, 1957 she married
Kenneth R. Young in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Tjode continued her education and became a licensed hair dresser. She owned and
operated her own shop "Talk of the Town" in Litchfield during the 70s and 80s. She was
a gifted seamstress, making many of her grandchildren's clothing and nursery bedding
which turned into "The Stork Stop" a custom made nursery bedding business with her
daughter. She worked for and retired from the Secretary of State of Illinois. Tjode was a
member of the Butler Presbyterian Church and the Hillsboro Moose Lodge. She loved
her St Louis Cardinal baseball and U of I basketball.

She loved her children Kenny (Sandy) Young Jr. of Mt Olive, IL, Tracy (Bill) Cooley of
Chatham, IL and Kevin L Young, who left us too soon on January 16th of this year.

Tjode was very proud of her 10 grandchildren Kenny (Stephanie) Young III of Springfield
IL, Nicole (Seth) Baker of Glen Burnie MD, T J (Maria) Green of Pickens SC, Dana
(Lars) Romang of Springfield IL, Britney (Clay) Murphy of Litchfield IL, Ashley (Joe)
Webb of Litchfield IL, Blake (Chelsea LaPolice) Shannon of Litchfield IL, Kevin M.
(Marrissa) Young of Litchfield IL, Sammi (Alex Lovdahl) Shannon of Springfield IL and
Taylor Cooley of Chatham IL. She was blessed with 18 great grandchildren. Though her
strength had diminished over the years, she was superwoman when she held one of her
grandbabies.

Tjode is also survived by her sister in law Arlene Barnes; nieces Polly Barnes and Barb
Walker all of Sheboygan Wisconsin, niece MaryBeth Barnes of Springfield IL and
nephews Steve Barnes of Hillsboro and Doug Young of Rusk, TX and companion and
close friend Bruce Holcomb. Besides her parents she was proceeded in death by her
brother Bill Barnes Jr, her brother and sister in law Roger and Mary Barnes, her
husband Kenny Sr, her son Kevin L Young and nephew Todd Barnes.

She fought a hard battle with cancer and was considered cancer free. Ironically the
radiation treatments took her precious life. Per her wishes, cremation rights were accorded with no formal services. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
