Velma Mae Langen, 96, of Farmersville, passed away at 7:49 a.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Villas of Holly Brook in Springfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Farmersville with Fr. Emmanuel Kanga officiating. Burial will be in St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.
Velma was born November 4, 1927, in Decatur, IL; the daughter of Frank Russell and Bertha Mae (Gelsinger) Hornbeck.
She married Melvin “Port” Langen in Morrisonville at St. Maurice's Catholic Church on Sept. 7, 1949; he preceded her on January 7, 2011.
Velma was a Farmwife and also waitressed and worked at the Morrisonville Bank. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville, the St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society and the Farm Bureau. She was an avid fan of all sports but especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the ILLINI. She enjoyed sewing, cooking/baking, gardening and working puzzles.
Surviving is a daughter Kathy (Bob) Carnduff of Springfield, sons; Ron (Sharon) Langen of Texas, Don Langen of Springfield, Dave (Sharon) Langen of Taylorville, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a Grandson Ryan Langen and three brothers and three sisters.
Hough Funeral Home in Farmersville is in charge of arrangements.
