Virginia Louise Diesselhorst, age 85, of Coffeen, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 12:20 AM surrounded by her beloved family.
A private graveside service for Virginia will be held at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Ms. Virginia was born the daughter of George Lester and Anna V. (Jackson) Ragland on September 15, 1939, in Litchfield, Illinois. She graduated from Litchfield High School, class of 1957, and attended Omaha Business School. In her earlier years, Virginia worked for the Roller Derby Skate Corporation in Litchfield. She later worked for several area hotels as the Supervisor of Housekeeping.
Virginia married Mr. Robert Fred Diesselhorst on December 23, 1961, in Alhambra, Illinois. Together they raised a beautiful family consisting of several children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He has since preceded her in death in December of 2020.
Ms. Diesselhorst was an avid NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. She was not just passionate about her teams; however, she also enjoyed the sport of bowling and shopping in antique shops. One of her favorite traditions was going to the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana and never missing an opportunity to make memories there.
Virginia is survived by her loving children, Sharon (John Mondin) Diesselhorst, Dennis (Janet) Diesselhorst and Denise Wilson; her grandchildren, Kyle (Hope) McBrain, Kimberly (Craig) Clevenger, Kayleigh (Dane) Bondurant, Isaac Diesselhorst, Lucas Diesselhorst, Robert (Malinda) Welsh, Katie Mondin, Henry Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, and Crystal Wilson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Ethen Diesselhorst, Madison Diesselhorst, Brady McBrain, Mya McBrain, Kaiser Clevenger, Sonney Clevenger, Clair Clevenger, Mabry Bondurant, Xavier Wilson, and Brooklyn Welsh; as well as her brother, Paul (Shirley) Ragland; and best friend Ms. Mary Kay Sinclair, who Virginia loved dearly.
Besides her parents and husband, Ms. Diesselhorst was preceded in death by her sons Gary Lee Diesselhorst (2024) and Robert Fred Diesselhorst Jr. (Infancy), and her brother David Ragland.
Hough Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements for Ms. Virginia.
