Walter Petra, age 74, of Irving, passed away on July 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Walter was born on October 5, 1949 in Ohlman, Illinois to his mother Della Petra.
Walter joined the United States Army at a young age, and he gave his all to his country. He was a Mortar Expert, M16 Sharp Shooter, a Radio Teletype operator, and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. After his time spent in the army, Walter went on to work as a diesel mechanic for several companies, having given the last ten plus years to Caulk Trucking.
He married Angie Allen on October 16, 1989, and she survives him.
Walter had a huge passion for the outdoors. He spent many hours fishing, hunting for mushrooms and Ginseng, and enjoyed every moment of it. He was also incredibly passionate about his Cherokee Nation heritage and was honored to have come from them.
Aside from his wife Angie, Walter is also survived by his daughter Kassie (Wade Vincent) Petra and son Brandon (Mandy) Petra, both of Irving, as well as 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Ernie (Lori) Cole, Bertha Elwood, Kathleen (Tim) Schneider, Gladys (Bruce) Arbuckle, Dovie Cutright and Lena Bain.
Walter was preceded in death by his mother, a son Walter Petra Jr., a beloved granddaughter Hope Petra in infancy, and 3 brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Walter.
